Architectural Audio - Invisible speakers
Greenwich village townhouse
Nestled on a charming, tree-lined street in the heart of the Greenwich Village, this townhouse stands as a beacon of elegance. In this highly sought-after Manhattan neighborhood, residents enjoy proximity to renowned fine dining, historic watering holes, Hudson River Park, the High Line, and the Whitney Museum - all just steps from their door.
Acquired from Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, this captivating brownstone now serves as the residence of Jana Bezdek, producer of “Jagged Little Pill” (musical) and co-founder of Fourthwall Theatrical, a boutique production company celebrated for its groundbreaking musical theater and emphasis on female-driven narratives. Recently showcased in Architectural Digest’s September Issue, the home was designed by Studio Shamshiri who tapped into the avant-garde subculture that flourished in the Village in the early 1900s and was inspired by “the history of the West Village as a crucible of bohemian culture, a place where people came to dream and create.” Perfectly reflecting the owner’s life in the theater and love of the performing arts, this special home is a symphony of vibrant colors, exceptional furnishings, and enchanting mural artworks.
OneButton’s task was to seamlessly merge sophisticated sound technology with architectural splendor. With music being a central focus and musicians and actors frequenting the home daily for read-throughs, cast meetings, and various gatherings, achieving superior audio performance while preserving the home’s aesthetic beauty was essential.
The project presented a sophisticated challenge due to the ornate plasterwork detailing on the ceiling. The intricate plasterwork created depth requirements that necessitated suspending the speakers lower within the plaster detail than the ceiling’s finish grade. To address this challenge, OneButton employed a meticulous approach which included detailed planning and onsite collaboration. OneButton developed precise elevations and sketches to plan the speaker placement accurately, ensuring minimal disruption to the ceiling’s design. Close cooperation with the plastering team allowed for real-time adjustments, ensuring that the installation seamlessly accommodated both the aesthetic and acoustic requirements.
The result was a flawless integration of invisible speakers that enhanced the acoustic experience while preserving the architectural beauty of the ceiling. Invisible Speakers and an Invisible Subwoofer were installed with precision, delivering exceptional audio without detracting from the ceiling’s luxurious appearance. This project showcases the successful fusion of advanced sound technology with high-end architectural design, reflecting OneButton’s commitment to achieving both functional excellence and aesthetic integrity.
Additionally, you wouldn’t be able to tell from looking at the Parlor Lounge “Seance Room,” but it doubles as a home theater! Bookshelf speakers blend into their surroundings and an automated hidden projector system is built into the shelving for an elevated entertainment experience.
